School Council
Written by Melody (Chair) and Tallulah (Values Councillor)
How we got elected to be a part of the Holy Trinity School Council…
We had a class election on who should be the class representative. On top of that, there are also two additional Year 6 School Councillors, the Values Councillor and the Chair. We had to write a speech explaining why we should be given these roles, and then deliver it to our class.
Our responsibilities…
Each class councillor is expected to hold a Class Council meeting every other week to report back on what has been discussed in the most recent School Council meeting.
During our bi-weekly meetings we bring the suggestion boxes and read all the suggestions the pupils have given. Then we note all suggestions and go through a process of elimination, eliminating all silly suggestions and ones that are not possible. Everyone is given a chance to speak in the meetings.
What we have done so far this academic year…
We have done lots of things as school councillors so far this year. We had an art competition and the School Council judged all of the wonderful pieces of artwork that had been entered.
We selected a winner and a runner-up from each year group. The prize-winners were announced in Collective Worship. The donation to enter the competition was intended to raise money for Afghanistan and their current hunger crisis.
We have prepared a Mathematics Pupil Voice Survey and we made up some questions to go on the survey. These questions were to gain an understanding of pupils’ experiences in Mathematics lessons. The answers were used to see what we may need to work on. One of our best questions was ‘Do you think your teacher enjoys teaching Maths?’
Since what’s happening in Ukraine is very sad we have to decided to do some fundraising for Ukraine. We will walk around the field and then we will add up all the steps everyone has done. We are walking to the capital city of Ukraine (Kyiv), and then on the 4th of April we are having a Ukraine day where we have to dress in yellow and blue like the colours on the Ukraine flag.
